Variants

Variants are the variations in a Human’s Forces that cause them to gain physical alterations and special powers. The most common Variant is a base Human, with the variations stemming from that. The first case of variations in Humans, Elves, was first documented in the early 1500s. Horrors were only first documented in the 1930s by Violet, and Rift-Breakers are only known to a small group of people.

Humans

Purity Levels

Humans are the most common Variant, with them being the base as well. A Human’s Purity level typically ranges from 0.01% to 35%, with the average being 15%. A Human must have a level of 30% in order to see Souls. 25% is the level of Purity needed to be achieved in order to use Basic Purity Manipulation.

Society

Humans live aboveground in typical societies. Nothing has changed with how they operate once Elves starting becoming a more common Variant. Many Humans don’t know about the inner workings of Elven society, with many not often going underground. Due to the Break, Humans have moved to shelters in order to prevent attacks by Souls. Base Humans are known for being very reckless with their actions.

Pure

Purity Levels

The Pure are the second most common Variant. The Pure are born with high levels of Purity, with it ranging from 36% to 50%, along with the average being 40%. The Pure can see Souls from birth due to the high levels. Due to having high levels of Purity, the Pure can control Purity to a much higher degree than Humans.

Features/Society

The Pure live underground, in smaller societies. The Pure have pointed ears. Their small cities are not far from major aboveground cities, and they regularly communicate. The main reason why the Pure live underground is so that they can access certain crystals that can contain Purity and Souls. Along with that, they can use Higher Purity Manipulation.

Horror

Purity Levels

Horrors are the third most common Variant. Due to being a Human from birth, Horrors keep their Purity level that they were born with. Although they retain their Purity levels, Horrors gain the ability to see Souls regardless of their prior level. The cracks that a Horror gains can be either slowed down or stopped with excess Purity, which the pills that Violet provides all Horrors with are used for. Violet’s “cure” is a Purity pill with a large enough amount of Purity that can stop the spread of cracks forever.

Features/Experiments

Horrors have an extra half a Soul that allows them to use Horror Soul Manipulation. Once a Horror gains the Soul, they gain “cracks” that follow their veins, with it starting in the heart. It travels from the heart to their cheeks, and then along their shoulders and arms. The Soul is colored, which changes the color of the Horror’s irises and cracks. If the cracks spread too much in a short period of time, the Horror can die. The only way to remove the extra Soul is to seal that Soul while it is in the Horror’s body, which is incredibly dangerous. The first Horror, Plague, was turned in the mid 1930s by Violet, who started the Horror Experiments. Almost all Horrors were turned by Violet, with Horrors becoming a much rarer Variant in the 21st century.

Rift-Breakers

Origin

Rift-Breakers are the least common Variant due to the fact that are multiple prerequisites to having a child that is a Rift-Breaker. They can only be birthed by someone with Rift Disease. There are only a few known Rift-Breakers in existence, with three of them being Death and War’s children. Rift-Breakers are meant to be guardians of Limbo, with them being meant to live there.

Features

From birth, Rift-Breakers can see Souls, but they have very low Purity levels. They do not age, but they typically spend their time in Limbo since they are their most powerful there. A Rift-Breaker’s eyes are cyan with black sclera, and their hands and forearm are jet black. They also stop aging after 21. A Rift-Breaker has access to Rift Manipulation and are effectively base Humans on Earth. When in Limbo, Rift-Breakers can use Basic Purity Manipulation and Basic Soul Manipulation, as well as the fact that they have pink particles floating around them.
