Review

Easily my favorite Metal Gear game. I love the story of Raiden trying to become his own person outside of warfare (something that I feel the later games butchered...). I'm also just a big fan of Solid Snake and Otacon's relationship, so getting more of them and seeing the way their relationship developed between MGS1 and MGS2 is so fun. The more tech-y aesthetic of this game is REALLY cool, the part with the Colonel is such a cool aspect of the game. The ending is also great -- I love the more candid speech by Solid Snake that really encompasses the story of the game. Sucks that they kinda threw that out the window to make Raiden a badass cyborg ninja. The game also has my favorite soundtrack -- I love the electronic/synth music of the boss fights. Yell Dead Cell goes CRAZY. The controls aren't as great as MGS3, but the first person is a lot better than MGS1's. As much as I love the more adjustable camera in MGS3, I do like how the fixed camera works in this game. It doesn't feel too obtrusive to the gameplay. I also just really like Raiden's silly little cartwheel kick. It's probably one of the best games of the early 2000s. I really wish games of this length got released from AAA developers, most games nowadays from large publishers are so bloated. Not to say I don't like modern games, but this game has so much charm that's really hard to replicate.
